Desire - the very thing we live for - is the fuel of our soul and we keep on hankering after it, thus, being able to exist on the solid ground of hard reality.
There happens to be an opaque demarcation between 'desire' and 'want'. While the former deals with something intangible and abstract, the latter deals with the possession of something tangible and concrete. So, if we talk about 'desire', it takes the form of love, friendship, companionship, rejuvenation, longings, wishes - silvery or dark, that can never think of its mention even under the slightest rays of stars, or death. And when we talk about 'want', it takes the shape of material gains be it wealth, property or of simply a person -whom we can talk to and touch and thereby fulfilling some of our desires which revolve around that person. In that sense, 'want' sometimes lights our way to fulfilling its intangible counterpart.
But, desire has its own unique place within the human soul, it fuels our soul and keep our heart beating. Whether suppressed or vocal, it is our desires that will always be with us. If one desire gets a chance to have the taste of fulfilment, another one comes and starts its countdown to pine for the very taste. But, there stands a slight chance for each desire to get that taste.
Can you ponder of unrequited love here?
Desires - glum or golden - make us laugh and cry almost at the same ticking. They make us fall hard, they also teach us to hold tight. They, with our ageing, become our friend, philosopher and teacher. It is in them that we take our refuge. And they, throughout the ages, have been remaining the same - a much needed escape route. After all, we, being the social creatures, are more or less escapists - taking our shelter in something unfulfilled and fragmentary.
